Guatemala: Phase 2

“Giving to those in need what they could be gaining from their own initiative may well be the kindest way to destroy people.” -Robert Lupton

Five years ago, Potter's House began sharing their 8 Forms of Poverty videos, which are based on various manifestations of poverty observed and studied by Potter's House co-founder Gladys Guitz.  The purpose of the videos was bigger than just promoting Potter's House. Gladys wanted supporters and staff to gain a greater understanding of poverty, so that they could direct focus efforts on practices that truly addressed the problems associated with it.

Response to the 8 Forms of Poverty has been strong, but Potter's House believes a reboot of the series, with greater depth and stronger storytelling, will have greater impact.  Having read books like "When Helping Hurts" and "Toxic Charity," I couldn't be more thrilled to share that I'll be working on this video series.

In order to battle the poverty problem, poverty itself must be understood. The 8 Forms of Poverty videos will serve to help many more people to adopt practices of charity and development that actually work and protect many of Guatemala's poorest families from harmful charity practices.
